![]() Every person at the 14th and Main Church of Christ is important. It has always been this way since the church first began to meet in Big Spring in 1912. People are important to us as they are to God – first, last, and always! Growing together, we worship, we laugh, we learn, and serve others to the glory of God. Every member of the church family is important to God and to this church family. A church up in the northeast had built a new church building. People came from far and near to see it and admire it. Up on the roof a little nail, holding down a shingle on the roof had these thoughts, “I am not important, they don’t need me. I am just one nail holding on a shingle. They don’t need me!” The little nail began to work itself out of the roof and it fell to the ground. It began to rain and the nail was buried in the mud and began to rust. The shingle worked loose and water started to leak into the beautiful building. The water stained the pews, walls and the carpet. Why? All because a little nail felt like its job was not important. Are we human beings any different? As Christians let us not fail to do our part in holding down our piece of shingle to the Glory of God and for the family of God. Clark Tatum
![]() Is there no balm in Gilead? This is the question Jeremiah asks in Jeremiah Chapter 8. There is a disease in our humanity, and the correct name for it is sin. We can dress it up if we wish. Call it by some polite name if it makes us feel better, but the prophet Jeremiah and others call it as God sees it – SIN. Sin is a fatal disease, and unless we come to faith in Christ, sin will devastate our souls for eternity. At Calvary, we know that his sinless blood has opened the way for our forgiveness. We know by His sacrifice we can be healed, and forever be with God. Christ heals our soul's disease and He is our balm. There is no public service announcement that will change our hearts. Yet, we can praise the Lord there is a cure for sin! There is a Balm in Gilead. There is a way for your sin to be forgiven. There is a way for your life to be changed forever. There is a way for you to obtain eternal life. There is a healing for your hurt and suffering. That healing balm is JESUS CHRIST, WHO DIED FOR YOU! There is no physician outside of Jesus for this cure. Clark Tatum
