Politicians make plans to gain power and to control people.  There is no limit to what they will do.  The devil works through them.  But their schemes will never work because they are working against God.
     As an example, consider Jesus’ life.  The chief priests planned to kill Jesus and Lazarus.  Jesus had raised Lazarus from death which made Jesus popular among the people.  John tells us, “A large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was (in Bethany) and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.  So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well, for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to him and putting their faith in him”  (John 12:9-11).
     The chief priests had a fool-proof plan.  Kill Jesus, kill Lazarus, and they would retain their political power.  They did kill Jesus, but he resurrected.  They may have killed Lazarus, as he is never mentioned again among Jesus’ disciples.  If so, he resurrected again, as will all of Jesus’ faithful followers.  Jesus and Lazarus live on, while the chief priests burn in hell.
     No matter what men plan, God alone has the power over life and death, then, now and forever.

     The bigger the society, the more progressive its sins, and the surer its destruction.  That is my observation.  Big cities, big government, big plans, made by big men with big money tend to get out of control.  We can see it in history and in current events.  Our politicians talk about enterprises that are too big to fail, when just the opposite is true.  Things that get too big are sure to fail.
     Remember the tower of Babel and the great empires of Assyria, Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome.  Recall the giant Philistine Goliath, the huge Egyptian army of Pharaoh, and the swollen ego of Nebuchadnezzar.  Think about the cancerous growth of Nazism, Communism, Mohammedism, Catholicism and Protestant Denominationalism.  In every case, the goal is to be as big as possible and the growth then leads to sinful corruption and ultimate failure.  Man’s biggest projects always come to nothing, sooner or later.
     When Jesus was in the flesh, Herod the Great ruled Judea.  Herod was rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem as a monument to his own greatness.  Josephus compared the huge building of white stones, some 40 feet high, to a white mountain of snow.  One of Jesus’ disciples commented to Jesus, “’Look, teacher!  What massive stones!  What magnificent buildings!’ ‘Do you see these great buildings?’  Jesus replied.  “Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down’” (Mark 13:1-2).  Jesus’ prophecy came true in 70 a.d.
     Things never change.  Do you see man’s armies, empires, religions, governments, philosophies, creations and plans?  Every one will be thrown down.
